ASINA: Anticipating Safety Issues at the Design Stage of NAno Product Development
Information
About project
Thinking and designing safe nanomaterials is no child’s play. There is no supply chain approach to assess the impact of Safe by Design on the production processes and value chains of nanomaterial products. This is the aim of the European Horizon 2020 project ASINA: to define a Safety by Design strategy for the development of nanomaterials with reduced risk and safe for people’s health throughout the product life cycle, improving the competitiveness of companies.

Project objectives
ASINA has the ambition to promote consistent, applicable and scientifically valid Safe-by-Design practices, which take into account all dimensions of nano-enabled product design: functionality, manufacturing technologies, safety, environmental sustainability, cost effectiveness and regulatory requirements, in line with the responsible research innovation policy.
Define a Safe by Design methodology for nanomaterials, with a focus on clean nanotechnology for coatings and nano-encapsulated systems for cosmetics.
Increase international market confidence in products designed with Safe by Design.
Define a roadmap to improve the quality, health, safety of Safe by Design nanotechnologies.
Project partners
22 partners including companies, research centres, universities and public bodies from EU and non-EU countries.
